You can find the voting form here. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGVPSnVqVWJkZW85UnVLNEU5WWN4N3c6MQ#gid=3

All HSO participants are eligible to vote in Phase Two, including Team English.

Remember that you must vote for five different teams, none of which is your own. If you fail to do this, you will be penalized 10 points! If you are worried you have voted incorrectly, or submitted multiple votes, please email us. Do not re-submit, and do not assume that we'll miss it and your vote will be counted anyway. We won't and it won't.

Voting will close Sunday, July 15 at 11:59 PM EDT.

Please note that this voting form is for Round One only! NOT Round Two.

BONUS ROUND 3

Bonus Round 3

Retro Gaming

Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 3.
In this round, you'll be creating fanworks based on video and computer games from before 2000!

Rules
Choose a game that was released before 2000, and post a fanwork based on the game in some way. Make sure to use the appropriate title format (see below). Examples include: character inserts, rewritten dialogue, costume redesigns, alternate soundtracks, theme song covers, photoshopped promo art, etc.

Your fill should not be focused on Homestuck characters playing the game--the point of this round is to make a crossover.

For this challenge, you are allowed to submit fills based on your team ship. You don't have to, of course!

For this challenge, there is no minimum wordcount. We are trusting you not to abuse that fact!

This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 21. After that time, even if it's just by a minute according to the timestamp, no submissions will be accepted for points.

Title Format
Please use this format in your title.

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.
Replace [GAME TITLE] and [YEAR RELEASED] as appropriate.

Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.

Scoring
(as stated here)
First 5 entries per team: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15: 10 (per entry)
Entries 16+: 5 (per entry)

All content must be created new for this round.

We would prefer that any questions about this challenge or anything else in the HSO be emailed to us at homestuck.shipping AT gmail!

ROUND THREE: BALANCING ACT

you gotta tip on the tightrope

Hey shippers!
Welcome to the very last main round. The R1 Phase One results should be up in a day or two, as should the R1 Phase Two voting form; the R2 entries are being processed right now, and the R2 Phase One voting form will go up when the R1 Phase Two voting form closes.

This round is a format challenge! Your R3 entry should be composed of two separate but related parts. They should be roughly equal in size/complexity; we're not going to be policing that, but the general idea is that they should balance each other in some way.

All submissions must be created/assembled new for this round by members of your team.

This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 21. If your Palhoncho sends it in after that time according to the gmail timestamp and before voting closes, your team's entry will get posted--but we may not be able to approve it out of the queue right away.

Requirements (as stated in the Info Post)
Fic/meta must be between 800-3000 words.
Combination fic/art entries cannot have more than 4 images.
All other image-based media (including comics) cannot exceed 10 images/panels.
Cosplay must be at least 75% created or assembled new for the challenge.
Gifs and other animations must be 8 seconds or less total. (e.g. you could have one 5-second gif and one 3-second gif)
Games are still subject to the 10-image limit.
Live-action movies are limited to one minute total.
Original music is also limited to one minute total.

The penalties for going over 3k words will be as follows:
3000-3050: no penalty (to allow for disparities in wordcount software)
3051-3150: -30 points
3151-3250: -60 points
etc.
PLEASE NOTE that gdocs is notoriously bad at generating an accurate wordcount, so you should probably check your submission at http://www.wordcounter.net/ just to make sure.
Also, this year we are requiring transcriptions of all text on images. These transcriptions count towards the wordcount.

For audio/vid files, we are allowing a 2-second grace period, and applying a 30-point penalty every 5 seconds after that. For animations, we are allowing a 1-second grace period, and applying a 30-point penalty every 2 seconds after that.

Penalties for going over the image limit will be 30 points per extra image.

If your entry has 800 words or more, it will be considered fic and will be subject to the illustrated fic limit.

Please remember not to post your HSO creations publicly until voting ends, whether or not they are chosen as part of the team submission. We would like to keep things as anonymous as possible!

Submission Format
Submissions should be formatted as outlined here.

Questions about this challenge should be emailed to us at homestuck.shipping AT gmail! We will try to answer any questions posted as comments here, but we may not see them in a timely manner.

awwwwwwwwwwww yeeeeeaaaahhhhhhh we got this guys! their whole relationship is a balancing act! so lets throw out some ideas.
i think that it would be cool if we could show a balance between the really heavy "try to rip each other apart" aspect of the relationship with the whole "mutually beneficial, help each other grow" aspect that comes with kisnemitude.
because at the end of the day your kisnemisis is supposed to make you better! even if you hate them!
on the other hand we could do something with trying to balance their romance with their EXTREMELY DIFFERENT political views and the fact that there are some lines that should not be crossed and they BOTH have to think of that when dealing with each other.
any other ideas? lets hear them! :) :) :)

Hello, shippers!

Round Two submissions are due this Saturday, July 7, at 11:59 PM EDT. Please submit your entry to the appropriate sector comm as close to that deadline as possible. After 48 hours there will be a penalty applied to your team's participation points; the grace period is to allow for re-submissions and extenuating circumstances.

Palhonchos should have received an invitation to one of the four Round 2 sector communities over the course of this week. If you have not received an invitation, please email us at homstuck.shipping@gmail.com.

Palhonchos, when putting together a submission, please make sure that you are using the entry header outlined in this entry.

In order to clarify: 'tags not used' does not mean 'none of these tags apply.' That goes on a different line! 'Tags not used' is intended to mean 'we chose not to indicate whether these things are in our entry or not.' Please keep that in mind when tagging your entries!

The 'Drugs' tag will be needed for entries containing illegal and/or prescription drugs, unless you are opting out. If you wish to tag for legal drugs such as alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine, that's also fine and we'll accept the entry out of queue.

If your palhoncho seems to have disappeared, please email us as soon as possible! The sooner we are aware of an issue with palhoncho attendance, the faster we can correct it. Emailing us on Sunday morning around 2 AM is not a great time to inform us that your palhoncho has been missing for a week and you're not sure if your team's entry was submitted. Do it now, if possible! We are happy to work with teams in order to get a submission in, but we can't do that if we're not aware of the issue.

On a related note: if you are emailing us, please include your Dreamwidth username and team. As it is, if you don't include that information, we need to index your email against the roster, which is time-consuming. In order to help us streamline things like checking on voting errors or signup processing, please help us out! This also allows to keep a record of our correspondence if we ever need to look back through the inbox.

Email is still the preferred method of contact with the moderation team. However, if you are messaging us on Dreamwidth, please include your team name in the email, and make sure your account has messaging turned on. If not, we have to index your username in the database to get your email to contact you, and when things are busy that may mean that your response will be delayed!

Hey shippers!
We have some VERY important voting and scoring announcements. Please read carefully!

So, we completely forgot to account for AX in the new schedule; with that plus the delays and trouble we've been having getting everything in posting shape, we've decided that it's only fair to extend voting.
The new deadline for Phase One voting will be Saturday, July 7, 11:59PM EDT. That means that Phase Two voting will take place from as soon as we can balance and tally the Phase One votes and put together the form (probably within a few hours) on Sunday, July 8 until Saturday, July 14, 11:59PM EDT.
Round Two will close and Round Three will open as scheduled on Saturday, July 7, 11:59PM EDT.

The points awarded for voting have increased from 5 to 15 (capped at 90)! This will be applied retroactively. Right now, there are only about 75 votes in all sectors combined; we know you're all very busy, and there are a lot of entries, but we really do think it's important to vote if you can. Hopefully now you'll have a little more time, too!

We've made a slight change to the bracket balances, so that scoring will work out a little better. The top twelve entries from each sector will move forward, so you'll have to read 36 new entries instead of 30. The top 24 (out of 48 total) will receive placement points.

Remember, all teams who submit a Round One entry will receive 180 points! In future rounds, we will probably have a cut-off date for getting the full allotment of participation points, but there's been so much trouble this round that we're not instituting the cut-off yet.

Placement points go above and beyond those participation points.
The placement point structure will be:
1: 1800
2: 1620
3: 1440
4: 1260
5: 1080
6: 900
7: 720
8: 540
9-16: 360
17-24: 180

Several entries have gone over the limits in non-text media; rather than disqualifying them, we will be applying penalties in increments of 30 points. For audio/vid files, we are allowing a 2-second grace period, and applying a penalty every 5 seconds after that. For animations, we are allowing a 1-second grace period, and applying a penalty every 2 seconds after that. For illustrations, there is no interval of grace; every additional illustration over the limit will incur a penalty.

-----
SO. we have some extra time guys but i would still recommend getting on this! remember we get extra points for voting so we should all make sure to do it!

Bonus Round 2

The Return of Round Robin Fanadventures

Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 2.
Round Robin Fanadventures generated so much awesome stuff last year that we decided to bring it back!

For those who are new to HSO, this is not actually that complicated a concept, but it might be a little tricky to explain, so bear with me. The point of this round is to create a bunch of fanadventures that are for a team other than your own.

Rules

If you are starting a new adventure: start a new thread using the title format defined below. Include either text or 1-2 pieces of embedded art setting a scene (or both!), and finish with a command (==> does not count as a command for new threads). Then sit back and wait for someone else to contribute!
If you are continuing an adventure: find a thread that does not center around your team's ship. Then comment using the title format defined below. Include either text or 1-2 pieces of embedded art continuing the scene (or both!), and finish with a command (this can include ==>, though generally we would prefer otherwise). Then sit back and wait for someone else to contribute!
For ease of reading, we suggest using standardized image sizes. 600x400 landscape is a pretty good size! But as long as it's the same as the other images in the thread, people will have an easier time following along. The HTML for inserting images is
For this challenge, there is no minimum wordcount. We are trusting you not to abuse that fact!
You may not comment twice in a row in one adventure. The point is to hand off the scene like a hot potato.
You may not introduce or create for your team's ship into a fanadventure. If someone else introduces your team's ship to a thread, you can still contribute to that thread so long as your contributions do not involve your ship.
This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 7. After that time, even if it's just by a minute according to the LJ timestamp, no submissions will be accepted for points.

NOTES:

Audio posts are fine, so long as you include a transcript.
Please make sure to check that your titles are correct!
You may answer commands that have already been answered. Think of it like a 'choose your own adventure' game!

Title Format
If you are starting a new thread, use this format in your title.
New [THEIR SHIP] Game (FILL: TEAM [YOUR SHIP])
Replace [THEIR SHIP] with the ship you want this particular fanadventure thread to be. Remember that you cannot create a fanadventure based on your own ship. Whatever ship you choose must be represented by a HSO team not your own. The only exception is gen adventures, which are permitted.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with. If your team name is not in this format and in the title it may not be counted.

If you are continuing a thread, use this format in your title.
[COMMAND] (FILL: TEAM [YOUR SHIP])
Replace [COMMAND] with whatever command the previous fill has specified.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your title is not in this format it may not be counted.

Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.

Scoring
(as stated here)
First 5 entries per team: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15: 10 (per entry)
Entries 16+: 5 (per entry)

All fanadventure content must be created new for this round.

We would prefer that any questions about this challenge or anything else in the HSO be emailed to us at homestuck.shipping AT gmail!

Sorry guys, I have not been as on top of everything this last week because things have been majorly hectic. It was just pushed to my attention that our entries for round one which were originally due this week were pushed back to be due June 23rd. In a way this is actually a sigh of relief as my laptop is getting progressively worse and I'd feel better about getting the problem fixed so nothing goes wrong when I send it in.

((Also its been a STRESSFUL week for everyone, one member got her wisdom teeth out and many others were busy. I was actually non-stop busy in the evenings and am starting to get a wicked cold))

Basically for MF and those working with her. We can actually spend more time editing the writing and finishing up the art for it so our product is more polished.

So yeah basically the gist is, we have more time, take your time re-working your pieces, feel free to confer with the rest of the team if you want any insight, artists ask about anatomy and whether the pictures make sense in context. And everybody just take Saturday to relax and recover because I may not have internet access but even if I do, you guys have been amazing and I think we need a rest.

Hey guys,

So unfortunately, I have been having a recent and re-occuring computer problem happen to me. My cursor isn't working the way it should. Its slow, darts around like it has a mind of its own and doesn't go where it needs to and generally is making my life difficult. This isn't the first time this has happened to me, but its been the first time its happened in very close ratios and its getting to be an annoyance. Its not anything dangerous, I have a macbook pro and theres a bug in the system called the magic cursor or phantom cursor. Basically its not just me and it not a virus but I need to go into the Mac Store as soon as possible to get this fixed. The earliest I can get it in is Saturday, the day our first entry is due. Basically I need MF to get her entry finalized and to me by Friday evening or at the latest Saturday morning, so I can send it in before going to get my computer fixed.

After I do this, while sending an email explaining my computer situation to the mods, I'll need to ask that palhoncho duties be taken over by our Vice Pal-Honcho RainbowPui if it ends up being that more serious things are going on. There may not be serious issues and I'll have my computer and post the next round 2 prompt on Sunday. In any case better to err on the side of caution. I hope you guys aren't too disappointed in me.

Hey guys, I posted earlier on in the week suggesting that if you wanted to submit something for this rounds entry to think about what and where you personally wanted to go with this. And while one or two of you have posted some staging and draft work others have not. So this is just my final shout-out for anybody who has even scrap work in the motion, that we need some idea of where we are going this incoming week if we are going to do both writing and art. So my suggestion is either this evening, all of tomorrow or monday, please post your work.

Thank you.

Okay everyone since it seems like we all have reached some sort of consensus.

Our official theme in response to the Round One Prompt; Gamble is going to be:

Viewing the gamble as something that not only dictates the summoner's entire rebellion but also the relationship between the summoner and the grand highblood themselves.

The idea is to try and do this as one person stated, Hemostuck style. Meaning we use pictures within our writing. The idea of the pictures and the writing itself is to go from brown hopefulness to dark oppressive purple or some mix of the two.

Our deadline for our first submission is next saturday June 16th.

Because we are planning on doing both pictures and writing it might be a good idea to coordinate writers and artists.

Since ANYONE can actually create and put forward their work to be used as a possible submission this can be tough.

Therefore I offer a suggestion: If you are thinking about writing or creating art for this prompt please come up with a solid frame by frame of what you are planning to do and you can also show off preview work of art. Writers can do the same thing, give me a summary of what you are planning to write, it doesn't have to be in too much detail but it'll give us a better idea of whether this is an introspective piece, or one scene fic or a look over a long period of time, etc. The post in which you can post this will be put up late this week to provide you guys with some time.

My plan is to basically have artists and writers to come together at some point to make a cohesive work. So this means you could reach out to another member and collaborate on the side with each other so that you can present a piece to us that is already sort of cohesive.

This is supposed to be a fun event so now that we've figured out the minor details, go crazy. And remember even if your final work isn't ultimately picked you all have amazing talent and are contributing to proving more ways for people to enjoy this pairing.

If anybody has any questions, complaints or comments please let me know either on the tumblr or emailing me at Saingirl101@gmail.com.

Consider this a round up post for all of the great ideas people are suggesting so that everyone can see everyone else's ideas.

For Round One, Theme (Gambling):

ThePioden- GH Isn't stable, each time the Summoner heads Highblood-wards for some blackrom might be the time the GH gets bored and up and kills him. The Summoner keeps coming back anyway.

The Summoner's rebellion isn't successful, so what if I did a sequence of a few images following the whole Gambler's Fallacy idea? The Summoner keeps making risky choices that fail, but each one has a definite chance of success, so he goes again, and as the images progress the tone goes from a really bright brown to a kind of oppressive, claustrophobic murky purple because SUBTLETY IN REGARDS TO COLOR THEORY: I don't have it.

morriganfearn- I reallly love the idea of the rebellion as a gamble ending with the biggest gamble of all just how far he can trust his highblood antagonist. I'm perfectly willing to take a crack at ficcing these ideas. I like them both. But it would be wonderful if we could have the art. It's very useful for setting mood, particularly with people who we don't actually have the full designs for.

The sequence could be of the risks that the Summoner takes in order to get the rebellion started, and then the oh shit moment when it gets the attention of the Highblood, and the even wierder Enjolras moment where he stands up to the GHB and something sparks angrily, instead of a what he assumed would be a martyrdom.

ohthesparkels- It's just that my idea was that it would focus on the summoners first meeting with GH, and he knows it's a bad idea but does it anyway, and GH almost kills him but doesn't, and tells the summoner that he "got lucky"

Siadea- When you think about it, if the Summoner is going to get close enough for them to actually touch, he's taking his life into his own hands because of GHB's size etc. (Also my headcanon is that those wings are hellaciously delicate, since butterfly/moth wings are.)

So to sum it all up the main ideas people seem to think are good is focusing on either 1. The summoner's rebellion being his big gamble 2. The Grand highblood's meeting and relationship with the summoner being a gamble itself ((Highbloods unpredictable)) 3. A combination of the two

And personally I'd love to go with option 3 but we'd have to think of a clever way to make this all work together.

This goes into our next item we need to adress, Medium. How do we want to get the message across. So far the suggestions have been perhaps a comic or song art. ((The seconds more difficult and I agree with morriganfearn that its hard to get a message across in the few amount of pages we get.))

Another possibility is coming a few art pages as illustrations and providing a large writing piece with it. thus proving a visual work with a figurative work to help make the message more clear.

I am leaning more towards this as it allows for one better clarity and two a better cohesion of the group working together as a whole. This is more work though, just to be clear. And we'd need the people we ultimately pic for this to be fast workers but still retain quality. However this is still up for debate and its up to you guys to figure out what we should do.

Collaboration Round, Theme (Aberration):

ohthesparkles- well pre-scratch could work, because aberration=break in normalicy=scratch?

morriganfearn- If we go really dark and violent in the rest of the rounds we could celebrate the questionably sweet aspects of black rom? That would certainly be an abberation in the quadrant.

On the same silly vein, The Summoner tells a really shitty joke and the GHB allows him to live anyway.

AU where their roles in the story are reversed? Like GHB is rebelling and Summoner is oppressing.

Medium:

I kind of feel that we should try to somehow make the images for a vid, since we're under no constraints for number of images, and it would be a great use of Saingirl's know how and talent.

So some ideas here, but we have time and I'd like to see what other people have to suggest.

COLLAB ROUND: ABERRATION

a break in the pattern

Hi shippers! Welcome to the very exciting and super special COLLAB ROUND post.
The prompt here is ‘aberration,’ which you can interpret more or less any way you like; like last year, we’re deliberately leaving it pretty vague. If you are unsure whether something counts or not, just ask! (It probably counts.)
To quote from the info post:
The final round is the collaborative round! IDEALLY 'collaborative' means that everyone on the team pitches in in some way, whether by brainstorming or organizing or creating content. Really though, we understand folks are busy! So as long as at least three people pitch in, it counts as valid for this round. Note that there is no longer a media requirement for this round.
This round is also different because only one entry per team gets created! Basically it should be a wonderland extravaganza of teamwork and togetherness.

All elements of this submission must be created/assembled new for this round.
No fan-created content is allowed that has not been made by members of your team specifically in response to the prompt. Mainstream creative content is fine (e.g. popular music, well-known art pieces, the Homestuck soundtrack), but not fanart, fan music, etc. This is largely to ensure that the original content in your entry is clearly identifiable as distinct from the borrowed content.

This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT August 4. (the link says '11:55' because it only goes in 5-minute increments) If your Palhoncho sends it in after that time according to the gmail timestamp, we cannot guarantee that your submission will be posted in a timely manner.

Suggested Schedule
We will be checking in with Palhonchos at a few different points over the next couple months to make sure you’re all on track.
Generally speaking, you should at least brainstorm a little over the next 2-3 weeks. By the end of June, your team should have some idea of who’s contributing, who’s doing what.
If you don’t know what you’re doing and haven’t really started by early July, you might want to talk to us.

Requirements
This year there are no media requirements! So long as everything’s created/assembled by your team specifically for this round, it’s all good.

Submission Format
We’re still working out the details, but this year we’re probably going to ask palhonchos to post their entries directly to the round comm! Stay tuned for more details.

Questions about this challenge should be emailed to homestuck.shipping@gmail.com; we will attempt to check the comments on this post, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to see all of them.

Please remember to check the Info Post and FAQ to see if your question is answered there!

So the theme for this round is aberration. A little more difficult to interpret but when I think of it, I think of a change of activity, something away from the norm.

So what for this round, three or more of use will work together over the next few months to create, a collaborative piece of work. This one I definitely want you to take some time to approach this.

What versions of the characters do we want to use? Post-scratch? AU? Or Pre Scratch?

How do you convey the theme and how do you think it can get across on your medium of work?

Anyway if any of you have any questions at all, please ask me or if I can't answer ask the hso mods or ask me to ask them for you. They aren't intentionally trying to make this complicated.

ROUND ONE: GAMBLING

they call you lady luck

Hey shippers!
We are so incredibly excited to announce the first main round prompt and the official start of the HSO!
This year, we’re loosely theming the prompts around patron trolls. We’re also trying to give you a little more creative space with this year’s prompts, so we’ll see how this works out!

For Round One, incorporate gambling--literal or metaphorical--in your submission. It doesn't need to be the central focus, but it should be a major theme.

And as always, if you are unsure whether something counts or not, just ask! You can reach us at homestuck.shipping@gmail.com

All submissions must be created/assembled new for this round by members of your team.
No fan-created content is allowed that has not been made by members of your team specifically in response to the prompt.

Questions about this challenge should be emailed to homestuck.shipping@gmail.com; we will attempt to check the comments on this post, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to see all of them.

So our theme is gambling. I bet all the scorpio related troll pairings are thrilled. But, we can still do this because this theme will actually make sense within a blackrom.

So what approach are we going for? Where do we feel we can make a bigger impact? Art? Fic? Combined and making a comic?

What versions do we want to use? Post-scratch? AU? Or Pre Scratch?

How do you convey the theme and how do you think it can get across on your medium of work?

These are all questions that I want you to think about before posting an answer with your ideas. AS well as what you initially thought of when you read this prompt.

((I'm not going to lie when I first read this, the image that popped into my head was the two of them playing poker with the summoner tied up going stop cheating you great beast of burden. I'm trying to win my freedom here. But thats just me and everyone ignore me))

Anyway if any of you have any questions at all, please ask me or if I can't answer ask the hso mods or ask me to ask them for you. They aren't intentionally trying to make this complicated.

As for what's left to say, let the round officially commence and let's win this guys!

But also be respectful as well and have fun!

So here's the deal guys. I just checked in with the MODs and sent in the email confirming everyone's check-in. However they informed me that I should let them know who our vice palhoncho is. At this point we haven't discussed this and I wasn't aware we needed someone so I'll just say this.

If you would like to be Vice-Palhoncho, please let me know as soon as possible. To be clear, you may in some cases have to make descions on my behaf if I am ever unavaible and lead the team. I hope it never comes to a point where I have to take off or anything.

So basically, you must be avaible and willing to communicate with me, probably on a day to day basis.

Please email me if you would like this possision as soon as possible. Thanks.

There has been discussion by the mods for the HSO to conduct the first mandatory check in tomorrow. To clarify, I will keep an eye on what the mods will do and make a post if you do need a to check in. This is just a heads up for everyone in case they are gone tomorrow or weren't aware of this.
